Good app, but some issues...

Very good app… but it catch focus of other apps… Hm… I can’t explain it… When I click to desktop, nothing gonna happen it’s just focus app.

I love the idea of having a living desktop background. Oftentimes, people think that means a Geektool setup or having animations/videos playing in lieu of a background image. For me, it means using my Asana calendar (or another GTD app) as my desktop background. Unfortunately, Desktopr wasn’t functionally usable with Asana. The site would reload every time I interacted with it, not saving any of my changes. Oh well. Perhaps they’ll improve their support for that kind of interaction down the road. Until then, it’s back to a photo of my cat.

Doesn’t work in Sierra

Browser does not appear on desktop. Displays nothing. Support page does not exist. You have my money. Please fix your app!

I love this app but it doesnt play .mov any of my videos which are in .mp4, .mov and .avi. I dont know why since .mov its the native video format for Mac. Quartz animation play really SLOW, I cheked my CPU usage and it was around 15%-30% so I think is not my MacBook Air with NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB graphics. I play my Quartz animation separately and they play great, even multiple animations. I have used Mac Desktop on both of my Macs and the quartz animations play smoothly without any lag, but thats not the case with Desktopr. Web sites as wallpapers seemed the only thing to be working, which are awesome but other than that, I love this app I just wish the quartz animation and movies would play at native speed. Please fix those problems. Give us more options such as widgets.

One thing then Perfect...

This app is great. The only thing it needs is the ability to turn off and on without quitting the app itself.

Useful, but all the things I would wnat there I already have somewhere else: Reeder for feeds, Facebook Id rather have on a browser, twitter I have on an app. Etc. Ill keep it installed though, you never know. Think what you want on your desktop before you buy.

This is a really great application, and so far its done its job for me. There are a couple of things its missing that would really polish this app: - Keyboard shortcuts to turn on/off browsing mode (this one would be huge), to activate/deactivate, and to switch sites - An option (and keyboard shortcut - theyre amazing) to temporarily hide all windows Other than that I really like this one, keep up the good work!

Browser is pointless, just a fullscreen browser with which desktop icons are not accessible. A real app to get for desktop video/quartz playback on the desktop is Mach Desktop.

I bought Desktopr so that I could put my Google Calendar on my desktop and glance at it quickly, simply by using my "Reveal Desktop" hot spot. Since my Google Calendar is for personal things only, I wanted to assign it to my personal desktop/space in Lion and have my work space be something else. But I cant do any of that. When I use the reveal desktop hotspot, Desktopr is hidden as well, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to assign it to a single space in Lion. It may be possible, but its certainly not intuitive, and I cant find the answer anywhere on the internet. But the hotspot issue is the dealbreaker for me, since it means if I want to actually USE Desktopr, I need to hide every single open application. That defeats the purpose; its easier to just keep a tab open for the calendar. Its a fun program with a neat idea and an attractive interface, but it does absolutely nothing of what I need it to do.

I like this app. I just wanted a moving background and this app does that with quartz files. Really handy when I want to keep an eye on a website, too. Should add better support for the Lion spaces system and dual screen coverage. Should add support for mpeg files too. Would be nice to assign this to second monitor with movie playing in background allowing us to use the space but still watch the movie.

WoW

this app works great! and i love how i can have my mail as my desktop instead of having to check it…. now i never have to even open anything to view if i have any mail.. woth the money!

I WANT A REFUND! All this does is paste a feed OVER the desktop - so all functionalty of the desktop is gone. I wanted a web feed as my desktop background and refresh it ever 60 seconds. This application does not do that. Does not do everything as advertised, all it did was reduce me of $5.

The concept behind this app is great, but its execution leaves a few things lacking. In my particular case, this meant: - Needs multi-monitor support. Currently it will only function on the primary monitor. Users with multiple displays will often want this on a secondary screen to display useful info while using the primary display for something else. - Ugly status bar icon. Should use a standard grayscale icon like almost everything else does. A minor annoyance, but still. - When using "transparent mode," CSS transitions appear to be choppy/unstable. This is probaly a difficult fix, but in my case it was a dealbreaker.

A great start!

Whats here is very good. All I need now is external monitor support and a grayscale icon for my menu bar.

wmeredithkc · 13 years ago

**misc fixes for mentioned bugs/lack of features** To get Desktopr to work on your secondary monitor, launch System Preferences > Displays. Select the "Arrangement" tab. One of your two windows will have a small white bar across the top. This is your primary monitor. Quit Desktopr. Move the white bar from your actual primary monitor to your secondary monitor. Relaunch Desktopr. Desktopr will now launch on your secondary monitor. Go back to your system preferences window, move the white bar back from your secondary monitor to your primary. Desktopr stays in place on the secondary. Youll likely have to do this once each day, takes about 20 seconds and fixes an otherwise annoying limitation. To get Desktopr to stay in place while hitting your "Show Desktop" command. In "Browse" mode in Desktopr, navigate to where you want your background. (in my case analytics, Real-time Beta) Uncheck the "Browse" mode in Desktoprs menu. Now when you hit "Show Desktop" all of your active windows should disappear, but Desktopr will still stay in place. This is *exactly* what I was looking for. I wanted to find a way to keep an eye on our websites analytics. So I figure for $2 whats the risk. Im running the latest version of Mountain Lion. I installed the app., removed all of their default entries and added a login for analytics instead. I fired it up, told it to go to the next item and theres my login prompt. Switched to browse mode, logged in. (1Password didnt work as a contextual item, but Ill live). Sure enough, theres my Analytics data, including the live traffic sources etc. Beta parts. AWESOME! Only I hit f-11 and sure enough the background/Analytics window disappeared, which isnt what I wanted. I turned off "Browse" mode in Desktopr, tried again and Voila! Its all happy. Analytics is my desktop background now, including live updating charts, and it stays in place when I hit the "Show Desktop" command. WELL DONE SIR! This is by far the best App. Ill buy all year, just for this functionality. I can see whats going on with my site 24x7 with a single button.

What it does for you is very useful - simply displays a webpage or file as your Desktop. The problem is the app isnt all that reliable. Specifically the refresh timer settings just dont take. Ive tried so many times to set it to refresh every 10 minutes... instead I either get no refresh for hours at a time, or I get them rapidly one after another. Just cant win. In my case I am using Desktopr as a study tool. I have it set to a webpage of randomly generated Japanese vocabulary lists. Its a great way to get exposure to new words while I use my computer as normal. However, if its refreshing too frequently I dont have enough time to review the words. And if its refreshing too seldomly I dont learn anything new. I hope the developer fixes this soon.

I really want this functionality to use our geckboard dashboards to monitor some website stats. Currently, I can only give this a 3 star because you are not able to select which desktop to assign it to. Always being on the main monitor is not as useful as being able to specify an external monitor to use. With that, I would give it a 5 star. Its a big detriment to my use.
